Baylor heads NSBRI research projectHOUSTON - The National Space Biomedical Research Institute (NSBRI) has identified its initial core research program aimed towards insuring safe, long-duration space flight."This is a very significant first step in fulfilling the NSBRI's mission," said Dr. Bobby R. Alford, NSBRI board chairman, Baylor's executive vice president and dean of medicine and chief of otorhinolaryngology at The Methodist Hospital of Houston. The eight research teams and team leaders are:
"The frontier of human space exploration is once again the human himself," said MIT's Dr. Laurence Young, NSBRI director. "The NSBRI research program will provide us the knowledge and tools to bring people beyond that frontier." The NSBRI is a joint project of NASA and a consortium of U.S. academic
and research facilities, headed by Baylor. Consortium members are Baylor,
Harvard Medical School, The Johns Hopkins University, Massachusetts
Institute of Technology, Morehouse School of Medicine, Rice University
and Texas A&M University. The Johnson Space Center, Houston, is the NSBRI
sponsor. |
