Conclusion of Focus 2

Well, here we are at the end of this chapter. It can safely be said that you now possess more knowledge about what happens to the cardiovascular/ cardiopulmonary system in space than almost everyone else in the world! But we are not done. The following chapters will cover how space flight affects the blood and its components, the fluid regulating system (kidneys and electrolytes), the muscles, the bones, and the human sensory and balance system. There is more excitement to be experienced as we journey together into the rest of the human body.

Before we move on to the next chapter, look at Figure 35. When we first looked at this figure in Focus 1, it looked much too complicated to even begin to understand. The sections that are now highlighted in the figure represent the body changes that we have examined in this chapter. In each chapter to follow, we will examine other sections of this figure, and, before you know it, you will feel more comfortable with the idea that when one system in the body is affected by something (in this case, space flighty, many other systems of the loop are affected as well.

Figure 35. This flow chart illustrates the many connections that exist between different changes that occur in the body as a result of space flight. The highlighted boxes are those that we covered in this chapter.
