Immune DisordersSleep deprivation and stress studies of men and women in normal settings - as well as isolation-chamber studies and on the Australian National Antarctic Research Expedition - are giving the Radiation Team data on virus reactivation and the immune system. Overall, the research will lead to a better understanding of immune system disorders, stress-related viral outbreaks, such as shingles or cold sores, and anemia and other blood disorders.
A spin-off Earth benefit study is evaluating how sleep loss affects the immune system of patients with nocturnal asthma.
