Elementary

NSBRI has a series of educational units for use in fourth- through eighth-grade classrooms. The free guides contain activities that allow students to learn about the human body on Earth and in space. The areas covered by these guides include:
  • Heart and circulatory system
  • Muscle and bone structure and function
  • Sleep and circadian rhythm
  • Fitness, energy needs and the food pyramid
  • Neurobiology, vestibular function and spatial orientation
These guides are teacher-ready and meet National Science Education Standards. The activities in each guide are stand-alone and can be easily modified by the teacher.

Another resource is the Butterflies in Space Teacher's Guide that allows teachers and students to replicate an experiment that was conducted in space.

Also, students can learn about specific NSBRI projects through a series of podcasts and then do activities related to the projects' research areas.
