Bobby R. Alford, M.D., Chairman of the Board of Directors 
Dr. Alford is a Distinguished Service Professor at Baylor College of Medicine in the Bobby R. Alford Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery. He is a member of the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences. Dr. Alford has received NASA's Distinguished Public Service Medal, the AIAA Jeffries Aerospace Medicine and Life Sciences Research Award, and the NSBRI Pioneer Award for his dedicated service and leadership to the NSBRI and its partnership with NASA. He has served on many space-related councils, including NASA's National Advisory Council, the select White House "Blue Ribbon" Advisory Committee for the Redesign of the Space Station, and the Task Force on the Scientific Uses of the Space Station. Since 2007, he has co-chaired four annual International Space Medicine Summits.
Jeffrey P. Sutton, M.D., Ph.D., Chief Executive Officer, President and Institute Director
Dr. Sutton was appointed President and Institute Director of NSBRI in 2001. He holds the Friedkin Chair for Research in Sensory System Integration and Space Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine, where he is Professor of Medicine and Director of the Center for Space Medicine. He is also an Affiliate Faculty member in the Harvard – MIT Division of Health Sciences and Technology. Dr. Sutton's career spans research, education, clinical care and administration. He has an M.D., a M.Sc. in medical science (neuroscience) and a Ph.D. in theoretical physics from the University of Toronto. His residency training was at Harvard Medical School. He has made substantial contributions to the fields of computational neuroscience, neuroimaging and smart medical systems. In 1995, he founded and directed the Neural Systems Group at the Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School. He was the first team leader of the NSBRI Smart Medical Systems Team. Dr. Sutton's academic leadership is internationally acclaimed, and he has received numerous awards for his achievements, including the NASA Distinguished Public Service Medal, an NIH Career Scientist Development Award and the President's Citation from the Society of NASA Flight Surgeons.
